WAY OF ST JAMES
Since mediaeval times, Christians have made pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela to the tomb of the Holy Apostle James the Elder, who, together with his brother John, was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ.

THE WACHAU WAY OF ST.JAMES

The Austrian Way of St. James begins at the Hainburg Gate and continues downstream along the Danube, following the Roman road along the Danube limes through Vienna and via Linz, Innsbruck and Feldkirch. 3,200 kilometres separate Vienna from Santiago de Compostela.

The Wachau Way of St. James is 44 km long and takes approximately 12 hours to walk. The starting point is Göttweig Monastery, dthe first stage is approximately 24 km long and leads via Mautern to Maria Langegg. From Maria Langegg the route takes you via Wolfstein Castle to Melk Monastery in a 20-km hike through the Dunkelstein Forest. These routes, a scenic experience, provide the opportunity to take in nature in a meditative mood.
